How We Price Landscape Work
Quotes are free, written, itemized, and given to you before any work begins. Here’s how the process works and why we don’t publish flat rates.
Why We Don’t Publish “Per Square Foot” Numbers
Because honest landscape pricing isn’t one number. A patio price changes based on base depth, material grade, pattern complexity, access, drainage requirements, and removal of existing surface. A planting bed price changes based on soil condition, plant size, count, and bed prep. Quoting a flat-rate before seeing the site sets you up for “ran into extras” charges that we don’t do.
What Goes Into a Landscape Quote
- Site walk — we come out, measure, take photos, look at sun, drainage, access, and existing conditions
- Material grade — pavers vs. stamped concrete, hardwood mulch vs. dyed, plant size (1-gallon vs. 7-gallon shrubs)
- Site prep — soil amendment for clay, base depth for hardscape, grading for drainage
- Quantities — square footage for patios and sod, linear footage for walls and edging, plant count for beds
- Access and disposal — can the skid steer get in, is there existing material to remove and haul
- Phasing — large projects often phase into 2–3 stages over a season or two
The Quote Itself
Written, itemized, with scope, materials, and timeline. You’ll see line items for each major component — demolition/removal, base prep, materials, install labor, plantings, mulch, cleanup. No mystery numbers.
What You Won’t See
- Hidden surprises. If something unexpected comes up mid-job (unmarked utility, buried debris), we stop and tell you before continuing. No surprise billing at the end.
- High-pressure sales. We quote what you ask about. If you want to add scope, we’ll quote that too. We won’t push you into the “full property master plan” when you just wanted a mailbox bed.
- Bait-and-switch. The quote price is the price barring scope changes you authorize in writing.
Deposits & Payment
For projects under about $2,000, payment is due on completion. Larger residential jobs: half at scheduling, balance on completion. Multi-phase projects: phased billing per phase. Commercial accounts on net-30 with established credit.
